The RANGE sliders to set the highest and lowest notes of the currently active scale to be used when composing “music” for you to practice. (Darkened notes are not active in your currently chosen scale.)
NOTE: Adjusting these sliders will pause playback and regenerate the entire score.
The STEP sliders control the probabilities of small, medium and large steps between notes in the active scale when generating the score.
NOTE: Changes to these sliders will only act upon new notes that are created to replenish the leftmost column in the visible score. Click the reset score button to pause playback and regenerate the score from scratch.
The NOTE LENGTH sliders determine the probabilities of their respective note durations in the composition.

In Scale Mode, This button will re-generate the score from scratch based-upon your current Scale Mode Practice settings.
(If you're in Song Mode, it will just reset the score to the first measure, activate the count-in, and toggle between the song's default tempo, and the tempo you've set.)
